Artist bio: I studied a Diploma in Art & Design in Glasgow, specialising in silversmithing in 1986-89. Moving to the Highlands with my family in 2006 I was immediately absorbed and excited by the landscapes around. I felt drawn back to art and in particular to paint. Through a series of classes, workshops and demonstrations I explored techniques and mediums allowing me to develop my own style. I quickly realised I loved the instant strong colour and vibrancy of oil paint and inks, both mediums allowing me to build up layers of washes, translucency and texture. We experience weather extremes in the Highlands and with the backdrop of amazing landscapes and seascapes I express the changes in our skies, how the light plays with shadow and reflection on land and sea, highlighting areas, creating vibrant colours and drama or casting it into shadow, with muted tones and mystery. I respond to and am influenced by the feelings I experience, all of which creates and I hope translates in my work.
