Artist bio: I live on the Black Isle and was brought up just outside Edinburgh. I studied Illustration and Printmaking at DJCAD, Dundee. After working for a short time as an Illustrator, I began to teach in a variety of schools and colleges in Scotland and also one winter in Spain. I paint what I see around me like a visual diary. Portraits, figures and land/seascapes. When I travel, I draw new ideas and sights. Thin charcoal and acrylic when outdoors and oils and larger works at home in my studio. Colour, line and sometimes collage, I combine to create meaning or some sort of narrative. Light and atmosphere is what I'm aiming for and a way of connecting with the viewer in an expressive way. I like to experiment with new materials and ideas, recently trying out some surrealism. I love to learn from the artists of the past masters.
